Working On Anmore's Acreages

Anmore is a village of a couple of thousand people spread across large lots between Port Moody and Buntzen Lake, and nearly every property in it is detached, private and standing in second-growth fir and cedar. That one fact sets most of the work. Needles and cones land on the roof and in the gutters twelve months of the year rather than for six weeks in October, and a north-facing slope under that much canopy stays damp enough to grow moss straight through the summer.

There is very little strata or commercial ground in the village, so what we do here is overwhelmingly residential and it happens at the scale of an acreage — long driveways, detached garages and shops, decks and railings that see more shade than sun, and roof access that more often means working from the roof than off a ladder in a flowerbed. Anmore also sits high enough that a snowfall which turns to rain down on the inlet stays snow up here, which is worth knowing before you book anything for January.

What we plan for here

  • Conifer needles all year, not a six-week leaf drop
  • Long private driveways, and grade at the top of most of them
  • Holds snow after Port Moody has gone back to rain

Not everything the crew does here goes on an invoice. These are the festivals, shorelines and sidewalks we turn out for when the schedule allows.

Common Questions

Questions We Get Asked In Anmore

The things people actually ask before booking here, answered the way we would answer them on the phone. If yours is not on the list, call — you will get a straight answer from someone who does the work.

  • Yes. Travel is already included in the price we quote, so an Anmore property is priced the same way a New Westminster one is; the usual minimum job size of $120 applies, though it depends on the job, and a travel fee may apply to an on-site visit this far out. What we will often suggest is combining work into one visit rather than two: if the gutters are being cleared the roof is already being walked, and doing both while the crew is set up costs less than coming back for the second one.

  • It is the first thing we look at when we quote, and it is rarely a problem. Water, pressure, detergent and power all come off the truck, so it does not need to be parked at the house to work on it — hose and cord runs cover most Anmore driveways. Where the grade or the surface will not take a loaded vehicle we park where it is safe and carry in, and if that adds time to the job it is on the quote rather than added to the invoice afterwards.

  • It does, and it is worth telling us before we quote rather than on the day. The truck carries its own tank of water, so a wash here is not a draw on your well. Around a septic field we keep run-off away from the bed and use the lowest pressure and the mildest product that will do the job — which is how a soft-wash is run anyway, but it is the reason we ask about the field before choosing a method.

  • More often than a property on an open lot lower down, because the debris here arrives continuously rather than seasonally. One autumn clear is frequently not enough under heavy conifer cover and a lot of these properties settle on twice a year. We would rather look at the roofline and tell you what yours needs than sell you a frequency over the phone.

  • Yes, though there is very little of either in the village itself. We are licensed and insured whether the invoice goes to a homeowner or to a strata council, and a certificate goes to a manager the same day it is asked for. Most of our strata and commercial work in this direction sits a few minutes down the hill in the Tri-Cities.
