Power washing removes what is on a surface with force; soft washing removes it with a detergent applied at low pressure and then rinsed. The surface decides which is appropriate, not the stain. Hard ground surfaces take pressure. Roofs, cedar, stucco and painted siding take soft washing, because pressure removes the finish along with the growth.
